Are you a business owner and have your own website?  Or are you responsible for maintaining your employer’s website?  Have you ever heard of Google Analytics?  If not, I suggest you sign up for this free web analytics service and dive into some interesting data!    Google Analytics collects data about the visitors to your website.  It also measures website activity and performance and can help a company with search engine optimization (SEO) and online marketing.  Cloud Construct uses this service for our own website and we encourage our clients to do the same.

Following are 6 interesting pieces of information you can obtain from Google Analytics along with some questions to ask yourself:

  1. Returning Visitor vs. New Visitor – Is you focus on online marketing working?  Are you pleased with the amount of new visitors hitting your website?
  2. Browsers – Does your website support the lowest version of the browsers your visitors are using?
  3. Traffic Times – If you need to do a deploy to your website that requires downtime do you know the best time of day to do this? You don’t want to select a high traffic time, do you?
  4. Landing Pages – What pages are visitors to your website landing on? If it is not your homepage then you should be interested in SEO.
  5. Average Session Duration – Are visitors reading the content that they were searching for and sticking around to read more about you/your company?
  6. Devices – Are people on their desktop, mobile or tablet when they look at your website? Is your website mobile-friendly?  If not, you should definitely read this blog entry.  Mobile-friendliness is a hot topic right now.  You want people that are accessing your website via mobile or tablet to have a good experience.

I hope these questions sparked your interest and possibly got you thinking about your website in a different light.  Sign up for a Google Analytics account and start poking around.  Remember, Cloud Construct is a Boston-based web design and development firm that builds web applications, creates software solutions and designs mobile-friendly websites.  Contact us should you have any questions.  We would love to hear from you!
