Employee Spotlight: Becky Burba, Project Manager

At Cloud Construct, we are a talented and fun-loving group. Though we all work remotely from our homes each day, we still maintain a high level of camaraderie through daily conversations, virtual happy hours, and work together days (when safe to do so).

In the next installment of our Employee Spotlight series, get to know Project Manager, Becky Burba. We talked to Becky about her life working at Cloud, some of her favorite things, and what she likes to do with her free time. Becky joined the Cloud Construct team in September 2019 and we’re excited for you to learn more about her and the work she does!

Get to know Becky!

Cloud Construct: Before working at Cloud Construct, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

Becky Burba: I worked for a company that placed teachers globally for ESL jobs at universities and had the chance to travel internationally quite a bit – especially throughout Asia!

CC: If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?

BB: Marine Biology

CC: How did you first learn about Cloud Construct?

BB: At my prior employer we hired Cloud Construct for a variety of services.  I now get to call the folks from Cloud Construct my co-workers!

CC: Where is your hometown?

BB: Middleboro, Massachusetts

CC: What is your favorite childhood memory?

BB: Family camping trips every summer

CC: What is the first concert you attended?

BB: Dave Matthews Band

CC: Best vacation you’ve been to?

BB: Thailand!

CC: What is your favorite number and why?

BB: 14 – it was my high school sports number

CC: What has been the most important innovation you have witnessed in your lifetime?

BB: Hands down the Internet

CC: What places have you lived in?

BB: Massachusetts, China, Colorado

CC: What is on your bucket list?

BB: Visit all the national parks

CC: What is your biggest pet peeve?

BB: Loud chewers, any kind of mouth-noise  – I can’t handle it. I will have to leave the room or put on some music to drown it out.

CC: What is the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten?

BB: Chicken feet

CC: How do you balance your career at Cloud Construct and family?

BB: I work 30 hours weeks instead of 40 and that has helped a lot with balancing a growing family!

CC: What do you like to do on your days off?

BB: Be outside, spend time with family

CC: Motto or personal mantra?

BB: Work hard, be nice.

CC: People would be surprised if they knew:

BB: I used to write poetry

CC: What book did you read last?

BB: “The Artisan Soul”

CC: What is the best book you have ever read?

BB: “Same Kind of Different as Me”

CC: Do you have a favorite quote?

BB: “Hope is a thing with feathers that perches in the soul, and sings the tune without the words and never stops at all” – Emily Dickinson

CC: What is the greatest challenge you have had to overcome in your life thus far?

BB: Getting laid off from a job

CC: What drew you to Cloud Construct originally? And how has Cloud Construct changed since?

BB: The remote opportunity and ability to have more flexible hours drew me to Cloud. Not much has changed in that regard over the past 10 months I’ve been here.

CC: If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as you?

BB: Rachel McAdams

CC: If you could only drink one beer for the rest of your life, what would it be?

BB: Can I have a margarita instead?

CC: If you had to eat one meal, every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?

BB: Tacos

CC: If you were an animal what would you be?

BB: Probably a cat

CC: What is an ability you wish you had?

BB: Long distance running

CC: What is the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery?

BB: First, I’d pay off my student loans, then I’d book a trip somewhere. I’d also love a Toyota 4-Runner

CC: What is the last joke you recall?

BB: “why was the scarecrow given an award? He was outstanding in his field”

CC: What is your favorite sport?

BB: I enjoy watching most any sport, but my favorite to engage in is probably waterskiing

CC: What is your favorite thing to do in the wonderful city of Boston?

BB: Shop, walk around, eat cupcakes from Georgetown Cupcake

CC: Where is your favorite place to eat?

BB: The Lobster Trap in Bourne, MA

CC: Which Marvel Hero would you be and why?

BB: Captain Marvel – she’s badass

CC: Where would you like to go on a dream vacation?

BB: Greece and Italy

CC: Which one would you want most – flying cars, robot housekeepers, or moon cities?

BB: Robot housekeeper

CC: Would you rather be a tiny elephant or a giant hamster?

BB: Tiny elephant

CC: You’re happiest when?

BB: Outside – ie: camping, hiking, beaching, kayaking, hammock-ing, bonfire-ing
